Transmuted Tokens
There’s a new mechanic for treasure tokens this year: Transmuted Tokens. Tokens previously known as Combo, Relic and Artifact tokens will all now fall under the “Transmuted” token umbrella. Transmuted tokens are like the old Combo tokens in that you’ll turn in several “ingredients” to make a new, more powerful token.
To make a Transmuted token you’ll need a specific token and some other “ingredient” tokens. Here’s a hypothetical example: to make the Rare+ transmuted token Wand of Chain Lightning you might need the following tokens:
• Wand of Lightning (one of the 40 possible Rare tokens)
• Darkwood Plank Trade token
• Hammer & Sickle
• Scroll: Call Lightning
• Enchanter’s Oil Trade token
• The equivalent of 150 GP in tokens
All of the ingredients—including the recipe—are consumed in the transmutation process. The only thing that will be mailed back to the collector is a single Rare+ Transmuted Token of Wand of Chain Lightning. Once you’ve acquired all the necessary ingredients, you can either mail them to True Dungeon throughout the year (with some restrictions, see below) or turn them in at Gen Con that year (times TBA).
Every recipe token have an URL printed on it that provides exact ingredient and powers information about all Transmuted tokens – along with links to mandatory forms. These forms MUST accompany any request for a Transmuted token.
Recipes of the Uncommon and Rare level will produce Uncommon+ and Rare+ and transmuted tokens, respectively. The cost associated with them will be comparatively moderate. However, each year there will be some Ultra Rare tokens that are upgradeable (or transmutable) among the 20 Ultra Rare tokens each year. These tokens when combined with other tokens produce exceptionally powerful Transmuted tokens—even more powerful than Ultra Rares. These “Relics” have increased costs to go along with their increased powers.
Finally, another type of Transmuted token is the “Legendary” token. These are the highest level of token available, and they require some hard-to-find tokens to tokens to transmute – and most require a Relic level token for starters.
Non-Legendary Transmuted token names will be printed in blue on the token, and a “U+” (for Uncommon+), “R+” (for Rare+) and “UR+” (for Ultra Rares+) will appear on the token to state their relative strength. The aforementioned Transmuted tokens will all have a gold-colored chip. Legendary Transmuted tokens will have black lettering with an orange glow, and their chip color with be orange.
Starting on March 1st, 2012 there will be an option available in the TD Store to “order” one or more transmuted tokens. This ordering is not actually buying the specific tokens (which is NOT possible), but instead it just starts the process for the collector to redeem one or more transmuted tokens. The website software will guide a collector through the online forms, and then it will print out an address label, a packing slip and a listing of excepted Transmuted tokens to be mailed back to the collector. All of this is then snail mailed to True Adventures, Ltd. HQ, and your Transmuted token order is processed once we receive it within 1-2 days. There will be a flat $5.00 shipping fee for all TD orders in 2012. So, if you order some tokens, some pages and some Transmuted tokens your total shipping cost will be $5.00. If you only order some Transmuted tokens, then your shipping fee will be $5.00. Note that your whole order will be shipped together – so if you purchase some tokens and some Transmuted tokens in an order, then we won’t ship your entire order until we have received your Transmuted token ingredients in the mail (and have processed said tokens).
All orders sent to collectors will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail with Confirmation Delivery service within 1-2 business days.
It is highly recommended that a Transmuted token request be sent with some sort of tracking in place. True Adventures, Ltd. is NOT responsible for any tokens lost in the mail while in route to TD HQ. If you’re mailing in tokens to be Transmuted, non-Legendary groups must be received by December 1st in the year following the recipe’s release. So if you want to make a Transmuted token whose recipe came out in 2012, you would have until December 1st, 2013 to have your token manufactured. There is no deadline for Legendary Transmuted tokens, so collectors have several years to gather their ingredients.
Mail-in recipe redemption will cease for a brief period immediately before and after Gen Con each year. The exact dates for the mail-in blackout period will be announced on truedungeon.com.
