The Details

True Adventures, Ltd. is proud to offer the following THREE completely new two-hour and 15-minute adventures.

"Part One: Giants' Travail":  Players must make a dangerous trek into the Dilmhold Mountains to find the entrance to an ancient dwarven burial site.

"Part Two: Draco-Lich Undone"(puzzle-oriented): Players must delve into the dark halls of a haunted crypt to slay Smoak -- a foul Draco-Lich.  Two of the rooms in this adventure will be more puzzle-focused than in "Part Two: Draco-Lich Undone" (combat-oriented).

"Part Two: Draco-Lich Undone"(combat-oriented):  Players must delve into the dark halls of a haunted crypt to slay Smoak -- a foul Draco-Lich.  Two of the rooms in this adventure will be more combat-focused than in "Part Two: Draco-Lich Undone" (puzzle-oriented).

"Part One: Giants' Travail" is the first half of the two-chapter epic adventure.  "Part Two: Draco-Lich Undone" (either version) is a separately ticketed event, and the adventure is immediately set after the story told in "Part One: Giants' Travail".  You do NOT have to play both adventures to have a great time.  We sequentially structured the events this year to give passionate True Dungeon players an epic conclusion to a story arc that began several years ago.  They can be played hours or days apart, and in any order.  This year will see the final confrontation with “Smoak” -- who has turned from a small red dragon to a larger Draco-Lich.

"Part One: Giants' Travail" players will receive a unique limited-edition Treasure Token at the end of their adventure.  Characters who survive will receive a cool "Survivor" button themed especially for the module.  If your party plays the adventure on the Nightmare difficulty setting, you will receive TWO different limited-edition Treasure Tokens.  If you survive on this higher difficulty, you will get a Nightmare "Survivor" button themed for the module.

Everyone who plays either version of "Part Two: Draco-Lich Undone" will receive a limited-edition Treasure Token at the end of their adventure.  Characters who survive will receive cool "Survivor" buttons themed especially for the module.  If your party plays the adventure on the Nightmare difficulty setting, you will receive TWO different limited-edition Treasure Tokens., If you survive on this higher difficulty, you will get a Nightmare "Survivor" button themed for the module.  Note: The rewards for both versions of this adventure are identical.

We also will be offering a one-hour combat hack-fest called True Grind.  This year’s event, “The Dead Do Rise”, is a nightmare of undead and other things that go bump in the night.  There will be a unique limited-edition Treasure Token given out to all True Grind players. Survivors will get a True Grind "Survivor" button.  This event can be played on the Nightmare difficulty setting, but there is no additional token or button for doing so.  Each True Grind player will also receive one Treasure Coin.

Storyscape (New for 2012!)

Because of our larger space in 2012, we decided to invest a great deal into an immersive starting area for the event.  All the mundane pre-event activities that used to take place in the hallway and the small ballrooms (including turning in your tickets or training for your adventure) are now housed within a cool, themed "storyscape" that resembles a cavernous dwarven village.  When you walk through the doors into Exhibit Hall D you will immediately enter this new storyscape and be "teleported" to the mountain cavern entrance of Icecrag Keep.  Inside you will find separate openings for each event – much like a ride at a theme park.  Each entrance will be well signed and located near the entrance to Icecrag Keep, so watch for your event title as you enter.  After each adventure, players will exit into the rear area of the storyscape area.  This means you can spend the entire day immersed in True Dungeon fantasy setting as you go from TD event to TD event -- with rest periods scattered in between.

The storyscape will also feature a concession stand, cash bar (after 6:00 pm), restrooms, and NPCs who may have valuable information to aid you on your adventure. There will be limited seating available for players with either a valid True Dungeon two-hour event ticket for later in the day or event wristband from earlier that day.  Please be prepared to show you have already played an adventure that day or will be embarking on your adventure later that day when enjoying the seating areas. However, all Gen Con Indy attendees with valid badges will be welcome to come in and explore the storyscape.  It is a great way to see what True Dungeon is all about.

Truecraft (New for 2012)

Try your hand at 3 different encounter areas inside the TD storyscape to see if you have the talent to succeed. You can attempt to Enchant, Abjure or Divine to gain a free valuable token, gain a magical protection for that day's adventure, or receive a divine vision that might aid you in a future adventure. Each ticket comes with 9 Truecraft tokens that you "spend" at the three different storyscape locations to take the challenges. Try to do some of your Truecraft fun well before an adventure, as the spoils of your success can aid you greatly in a future adventure that day. Once you have your bag of tokens, you have the entire day to spend them -- so you don’t have to show up at 10am. The fun can be scattered around the whole day. The NPCs at each station might also have a few other things you can do for them, and you can spend Fate tokens to acquire quests from them.

These quests might just take you 5-10 minutes to complete, or it might take you multiple days to fulfill your task.  All these tasks take place inside the storyscape -- or you might be asked to look for information available only inside one of the two hour adventures (or even True Grind).

Tickets cost $12 and it should take about 1-2 hours to "spend" all your event tokens – but you can spend them all around the day (from 10am to 8pm).

Participation Tokens

As stated earlier, players earn a cool limited edition participation token just for playing a TD adventure. There are FIVE unique tokens available at Gen Con Indy 2012. The two versions of “Draco-Lich Undone” have the same participation token, and the Nightmare version of this module has its own special participation token. Similarly, “Giants' Travail” also has both Normal and Nightmare participation tokens.  True Grind has its own unique limited-edition Participation Token.  For the two-hour adventures, anyone playing on the "Non-lethal" setting will receive the Normal participation token, but no Survivor button can be earned.

True Dungeon 101

This one-hour seminar, presented by a group of great TD veterans, is highly recommended for new TD players.  Search for “TD 101” to get your tickets to this free event.

Last Word!

This year is our TENTH annual event at Gen Con Indy, and it feels just like the first True Dungeon back in 2003.  We have taken a HUGE leap of faith here that we can make this larger (and MUCH more expensive) venue work for us, and the event has grown incredibly complex.  But, just like we did back in 2003 when we jumped in with both feet, we are confident that the 2012 True Dungeon event will be a huge milestone.  I want to thank all the 200+ volunteers who are helping me to put on this mammoth event.  Thanks so much for helping to make my dream of providing an awesomely cool, immersive D&D type event a reality.

See you in August!
