Online Volunteer Form NOW OPEN!
True Dungeon is moving to a huge 45,000 square feet location inside the Indiana Convention Center – complete with food, drinks, adult beverages and bathrooms. There will be a “storyscape” area where players can immerse themselves in our fantasy setting for the entire day if they wish. But to take True Dungeon to this next level, we need many volunteers to pull it off. The year 2012 will be an epic year for True Dungeon! It is our 10th annual event, it will see the final end of Smoak the Draco-Lich, and players will have an immersive storyscape to enjoy.
PLEASE consider volunteering to help turn True Dungeon into a day-long destination inside Gen Con Indy itself.

NEW Volunteer Schedule in 2012!
In response to the great feedback from our volunteers, we are making some changes to our volunteer program. The two biggest complaints from full-time volunteers were the double-shift days and the Tuesday-Wednesday build hours (and the LATE teardown hours). Previously, we have asked full-time TD people to work about 6 hours on Tuesday, 8-10 hours on Wednesday (with training), and then four 5.5 hour shifts during the Con — with one day being a double shift. That was a big time commitment (roughly 40 hours or so) and that double-shift day was challenging. This situation has led to some attrition among volunteers, and it has caused some tired and frustrated volunteers.
Day Split into TWO Shifts (instead of Three) AND TWO 24-Minute Breaks Per Shift!
Instead of placing the start times of the TD event from 9:36 am until Midnight (Thursday-Saturday) as we have done for years, we are running from 9:00 am until 11:00 pm (last adventures start at 11:00pm). We are dividing these three days into two 6.5 hour shifts with each shift getting two 24-minute breaks. A typical shift would thus be something like: 1) work two hours 2) take a 24-minute break 3) work two hours 4) take a 24-minute break 5) work two hours.
The volunteer schedule for Sunday will be done differently. The TD event will have start times from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (4-hour shift) and then we will tear down the event from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Full-time volunteers will be asked to work one of these Sunday shifts.
Under this new program, Full-Time volunteers will see their total hour commitment cut dramatically — and they would not have any days with two shifts. Instead of working approximately 40 hours (Tuesday-Sunday) as before, FT volunteers will have the following schedule:
===================================
Wednesday: Training from 5:00-8:00pm
Thursday through Saturday: Work one approximately 6.5 hour shift. The event start times are 9:00 am to 11:00 pm (each FT volunteer works one 6.5 hour shift each day)
Sunday: Work one approximately 4 hour shift. The event start times are 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (one break at 11:00 am). Half of the volunteers would work this 4-hour shift while the other half would work TEARDOWN from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
===================================
Before this new plan, a FT volunteer needed to put in about 40 hours of work. This plan asks them to put in 26 hours. (2 + 6.6 + 6.6 +6.6 + 4 = 26) Part-Time TD volunteers will be asked to volunteer the Wednesday night training and two 6.5 hour shifts. You must be able to work a 4-hour Sunday shift to be a Full-Time volunteer. This new plan structure starts volunteering on Wednesday (instead of Tuesday as was in 2011), so it is hoped volunteers can travel later on Sunday because of this.
The build of the event will be done Monday through Wednesday by a separate crew of 30 Indy locals. This new schedule does not affect the number of tickets available for True Dungeon.
The Catch?
This plan is great for FT volunteers as now they don't have to arrive until Wednesday at 5:00 pm for Training, and they have to only put in 26 hours or so of work (as opposed to 40 previously). The catch on this plan is that it will take more FT volunteers to make the load easier on everyone. As a result, there is a much greater expense to the event to adopt this plan.
We feel the extra expense is worth it since it will mean we will retain more veteran volunteers (and maybe bring some back!) and it should improve the quality of the event — as volunteers should be much less stressed with the reduced workload.
In order to pay for this big reduction in volunteer commitment, we will no longer be offering the Hospitality Suite. I know that the Suite is a big hit with some volunteers, but in 2011 less than half the volunteers actively used it. In addition, we are moving the event to a bigger and better spot — but it is located much farther away from the Hospitality Suite. In total, the best choice is to adopt the new lower-hour schedule but stop offering the Hospitality Suite perk.

Volunteers (or those interested in volunteering) must fill out this form even if they filled out the online form in 2011. We must make sure your 2012 info is correct, and the only way we can do that is to have you fill out this form again. Sorry for the extra work if you are a returning volunteer. All volunteers (and prospective volunteers) MUST fill out all the applicable fields. This information will be kept secure, and it will be used to select and schedule all volunteers.
At a later date you will be contacted by the True Dungeon Volunteer Coordinator to confirm your duties at Gen Con Indy. Please contact volunteer@truedungeon.com if you have any questions. Thank you for volunteering for True Dungeon!
Jean Monfort Named 2012 Volunteer Coordinator
We have a new Volunteer Coordinator this year – Jean Monfort. Jean is a TD Veteran who has worked as a NPC numerous times, and she lives in the Indianapolis area. Because we are making a huge push this year to recruit and train large number of Indianapolis local gamers, we felt it was best if the Volunteer Coordinator was located near Indianapolis. A BIG THANKS to Jenn Naglee for doing a great job in 2011 as Volunteer Coordinator. She brought in the online event schedule software that was such a big help last year. Thanks Jenn!
Last Word
This is going to be a special year. I hope you will join me in making bringing a lot of fun to thousands of gamers at Gen Con Indy. I can’t wait to give all our players the fun of such an immersive gaming experience. It will be a dream come true for me.
Best Regards,
Jeff Martin
