True Dungeon
Post-Gen Con Newsletter
Dear Players,
Wow…what an adventure! Gen Con Indy 2007 was a great time, and I hope that True Dungeon was something that you enjoyed as well. All of us TDers worked very, very hard before, during and after the event, and I hope our efforts brought a lot of geek fun to everyone.
I think 2007 was our most successful True Dungeon event yet – as the feedback and comments we received have generally been very positive. Thanks to suggestions from players and volunteers we were able to make a number of improvements in 2007, and I hope the surprise of seeing “real life” monsters in the dungeon was cool for you.
Believe it or not, we are energized to make 2008 even better! We have a few tweaks to make to the Marshalling Area, treasure boxes and few other areas, but you should expect what you experienced in 2007 – only better! We certainly will make sure that we build and improve our event in 2008.
-- Jeff Martin, Director
Much Thanks to the Volunteers!
You may not know that it takes a staff of about 120 people to put on the True Dungeon event! A majority of the volunteers work 8-10 hours a day (Tuesday-Sunday) to bring you all the True Dungeon fun every year. In addition, many of these same people give up many, many hours during the year to build props, construct sets, make costumes or conjure up a monster or two. The Beholder was a HUGE project that took many months to complete. Additionally, there is a great deal of logistical work that has to be done to carefully plan and coordinate a huge event like True Dungeon with a 120-member staff. Finally, many of the volunteers spent several hours training with extensive manuals for their position whether they are one of the 30 DMs or one of the dozen or so Coaches. Much, much thanks to all the volunteers who pitched in and allowed over 3,000 people to enjoy a cool event. Let’s keep hoping that they all will want to do it again next year!
If you are interested in volunteering next year, please send an email to me at jeff@truedungeon.com. We could really use the help!
Tokens Are STILL AVAILABLE!
The response to our token collection this year has been great. We really appreciate the support our players have shown for our tokens. We do have some left over after Gen Con so please consider supporting the event by buying a few more packs. We still are honoring our great specials, so please click HERE to get your tokens.
Feedback Loop Token Fundraiser a HUGE Success!
We teamed up with Feedback from the TV reality show “Who Wants To Be a Superhero” to issue a special token to raise money for the "Make-A-Wish" Foundation and "Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic". Due to Feedback’s hard work he raised over $1,700 for these charities! Congrats Feedback on a super job.
Combo and Reserve Tokens Were a Success
The response to the Combo tokens and the Reserve tokens was great this year. Trading for Combo tokens was very brisk. Also, approximately 145,000 gold pieces (and gems) were traded in for special Reserve tokens that made walking around with a lot of TD “money” much easier. We even distributed some of the ultra cool 10,000 gp Reserve tokens.
True Dungeon Prop Auction
We had a special auction for some old True Dungeon props and other items of interest for collectors. The big items turned out to be a complete collection of the 2005b tokens and the ONE book that included all the TD modules to date. Each went for about 10,000 gold pieces. Jeff Cunningham was the big bidder on both, but the cool guy ended up giving the module to someone who really wanted the module but had no gold with which to bid. Thanks to everyone who showed up and bid with their TD gold pieces and gems. We will most likely have another auction within the next few years.
True Arena
The action was fast and nerve-wracking during the final combat between last year’s winner (Robert Cain) and a feisty new-comer (Patrick McAlpine). After sliding some awesome natural 20s the challenger defeated the defending champ with style. Great sliding gentlemen!
TD 101
Some members of the Dungeon Delvers Anonymous (TD gamer group) were kind enough to put on three seminars for those people who were interested in playing True Dungeon. They have a nice Powerpoint presentation and some tokens to give to every attendee. Much thanks to the DDA for helping out the newbies!
Final Word
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the families of our hard-working volunteers. I know that several of us have spent many long hours away from our families in 2007 to prepare the adventure for our players, and I want to sincerely thank my family as well as the families of our awesome year-round volunteers. We appreciate your sacrifice, and we thank you for allowing us to leave out our geek dreams.
See you all in 2008!

Riddle Reveal
As usually happens I (and many others) were blessed with little or no sleep on Saturday and Sunday so I was a walking zombie at the Riddle Reveal on Sunday at 1:00pm. I hope to get some sleep next year so I don’t ramble through Fritz’s great slide show program. I apologize for the poor narrative with the cool slide show.
Please CLICK HERE to go to our Riddle Reveal page for all the secrets to this year’s dungeon adventure.
